worldwide status

tupperware is the #2 recognized household name behind coca cola. now THAT is something that you can trust! i had a tupperware party a month or two back and there was a guy there from portugal. he told me that his mom had lots of tupperware and it always was the best so when he heard that his girlfriend had been invited to a tupperware party here, he wanted to see it for himself. he only had good things to say about the product and sold lots of the party guests on a variety of items. it was cool to hear about tupperware in places other than north america - i guess that's why it's a household name.

classic tupperware

at a tupperware party this week, the guests were talking about their favourite tupperware containers and one guest said how much she loved her season serve container.
this is definitely a classic tupperware staple - especially come summer and you're barbecuing! throw your steaks or chicken in it with your marinade and then you can keep flipping the meat inside the container to fully marinate it and no messing around a fork trying to flip them over, splashing marinade on your white shorts. :)

but this guest at the party said she owned about TEN of these containers! a couple for marinating meat but all the rest for storing her baking! she said that come christmas or other holiday, she has them all full of baking! so there you go - it's versatile!

freeeee....

i have to say, i love giving away free tupperware. at last night's party, i sat with the hostess at the end and watched her page through the catalog trying to decide what she wanted to buy with her hostess credit: over $100 in free tupperware plus two half price items! she talked about what she wanted for her pantry and i made some suggestions. we tried different sized modular mates in her pantry to see what would work best. and as she'd pick things, i'd subtract it from her total and tell her how much she still had left. everytime, she'd say, "i still have that much left?"

picking out your free tupperware at the end of the night is the best part of having your tupperware party. sure, hanging out with friends, eating some snacks, that's all fun too. but free stuff? the best!

making baby food

i know i've talked about these items before but yesterday, i was cleaning out my freezer and found a third of a bag of frozen mango in there. i didn't really want to eat it and my husband didn't want mango for anything so instead of letting it go to waste, i thawed it for my assistant. once it was thawed, i drained the water and put it in my quick chef. this was about 5 or 6 turns and i had mashed up mango. (i searched everywhere in the house for my camera and couldn't find it so sorry, no pictures!)
then, because he's not going to eat all of that in the next day or two, i poured the mango into my ice cube tray and put the lid on! ready for later!

not as small as they seem...

you know how people always say, "i was making this meal so i just doubled it to freeze for later"? that never works for me. just doubling recipes is not as easy as it sounds. what is easy, however, is browning hamburger meat before you freeze it. this saves HUGE time when making a meal that calls for hamburger. but i'm usually too lazy to do it. well, the other day, i bought 5 pounds of hamburger and decided to split it into 5 portions and brown it all before freezing. i planned to put it in my freezermates.

the freezermates look small. the starter set is two "small 1" containers (1 in regards to their height) and two "small 2" containers. they don't look like they could hold much. but the less air you can have in your freezermates, the better. it reduces freezer burn. i put a pound of my browned hamburger into one of the small 2 containers and it didn't even fill it up! if you had told me that this container could hold a pound of hamburger, i probably wouldn't have believed you! they may be small, but they can hold more than you expect!

here's a tip for storing food in your freezermates: if the food that you put into the container doesn't fill it up, stuff the rest of the space with crumpled waxed paper. it will save your food from freezer burn.

don't forget! the family set of freezermates is on sale! when you buy $85 worth of tupperware until apr.9, you can get this set for only $24.50!

still amazed by my fridgesmarts

the other day i bought a quart of strawberries "on sale" which you know always means "about to go bad". i stupidly didn't transfer them to a fridgesmart right away when i brought them home and they got forgotten in the fridge for a couple of days. after those couple of days, i threw out many of the strawberries that were rotting and put the remaining few in my small fridgesmart. i forgot about them again. when i DID think of them, i was like, "oh no! those are going to be so gross now!" i fished out the fridgesmart and lo and behold! the strawberries were the same as the day i put them in there! unbelieveable! seriously.

in other fridgesmart news around my house, i've been hanging onto the same head of romaine for about 3 weeks now and the few leaves that are still left in my large fridgesmart are honestly crispier and fresher looking than the say i put them in there! love love love my fridgesmart.

and NOW in the new catalog, the fridgesmarts are clear! how great is that? you won't forget which one has strawberries and which one has lettuce!

also, a new product is the fruit fridgesmarts! they're square! that big one has 4 pinapple halves in it!

i could not wait to get these in the mail! these bottles hold a litre and have a great shape that make them easy to hold. i love these colours! the set of 3 is 40% off - $22.50.

mid-march flyer: deals and pwps

so the big ticket item for the new mid-march flyer that starts on march 13: crystalwave!
not one dish or two dishes for reheating your leftovers in the microwave...TEN crystalwave containers! the one you see above holds about 4 1/2 cups (or 3L) and costs $24.50 usually. how about one of those, another one the same size but not divided, two 2L containers, two 1.5L containers and then four 1L which are perfect for sending to school or work with leftovers to be reheated! how about all TEN for only $68.50?!?! whaaat? that's less than $7 a container!

then we have pwps...ah yes - pwp. if you've been following this blog or tupperware for any length of time, you'll remember that pwp means purchase with purchase. this is one of my favourite parts of the monthly flyers. if you're already buying this much, you can get THIS for a crazy deal!

so let's say you're buying the crystalwave for $68.50. with a $60 purchase, you can purchase the "fresh & cool" set of three containers for your fridge door for just $16.50! these containers are cute, green containers to put whatever you like in - herbs, cherries, sour cream, you name it. there's a 2-cup, a 4 1/2cup, and a 6 1/2 cup. making more space for you by fitting into your door.

or let's say you're getting the crystalwave for $68.50 plus the set of waterbottles (more on those tomorrow). with an $80 purchase, you can get the family set of the freezer mates for only $24.50! this set is normally $45 and worth every penny!

oooh...this is a GOOD flyer! more about the mid march tupperware flyer later this week. think about who you can invite to your party between march 13 - april 9th.

neoprene oven mitt

so i posted about this spring set the other day but today, my neoprene oven mitt came in the mail and i tried it out immediately. considering my current oven mitt has a hole right where the thumb meets the hand and i've withstood many a minor burn there, i love my new oven mitt! i thought maybe the fact that it's not the same shape as your typical oven mitts are, that it might make maneuvering items out of the oven more cumbersome. it doesn't. in fact, your thumb works just the same in this mitt as the others. and this one goes quite high up your arm for when your depth perception fails you and you lift your arm up before it's out of the oven. (i've withstood many a burn on my forearms as well...it's why i don't bake a lot...) also, stuff is still hot through my old oven mitts. you can't hold on to it for too too long but this neoprene is really something. yep, loving the mitt. only $18.75!

rice in the microwave...among other things...

there are so many tupperware products that it's not always possible as a new consultant to try out every one of them. however, last night at our business rally, another consultant demoed tupperware's microwave rice cooker. she made a quinoa (pronounced keen-wa) recipe. i couldn't believe how fast and easy this recipe was AND of course, clean-up is much easier when there's no burnt rice on the bottom of the pot. (or in this case, quinoa) 13 minutes in the microwave and we had this yummy taste test. here's the recipe:

Chef Stuart’s Cucumber and Green Pepper Quinoa

Quinoa is a gluten free grain making it the perfect food for those who cannot tolerate gluten so prevalent in wheat and many other grains. Quinoa seeds have a soap like coating called saponin, and even if they have been washed before you purchase them, they need to be thoroughly washed to remove any remaining residue. An effective method is to run cold water over quinoa that has been placed in a fine-meshed strainer, gently rubbing the seeds together with your hands. To ensure that the saponins have been completely removed, taste a few seeds. If they have a bitter taste, continue the rinsing process.

Serves 4

Ingredients

4 cups water
2 cups quinoa
1/2 tbsp. salt
½ English cucumber, cut into 2" pieces
½ green bell pepper, quartered
1 tbsp. red wine vinegar
1 tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
salt and pepper to taste

Let’s cook!

1. Put water, quinoa and salt in Tupperware® Microwave Rice Maker and microwave for 13 minutes.

2. While the quinoa is cooking, put cucumber and green bell pepper in the Quick Chef with the blade using attachment and lightly turn the handle a few times to get a rough chop.

3. Remove cooked quinoa from the microwave and using the Double Colander, drain the quinoa.

4. Put quinoa, cucumber, bell pepper, red wine vinegar and olive oil in an 8 ¾-cup/2.1 L Wonderlier® Bowl and stir using Saucy Silicone Spatula until well combined. Season to taste.

trading tumblers

remember my idea about having a smoothie party? that set of 4 tumblers is headed out of the catalog. each one comes with a recipe for a different fruit smoothie. the seals are virtually-liquid tight which really makes it a travel smoothie cup...4 for $30.50

taking it's place? a set of 6 "eco" tumblers - each one with a different design of an endangered animal. they're quite pretty in real life. great for on the go and i'm sure they can also hold smoothies. these are...wait a sec...a better deal than the ones above...6 for $36.50. so about $6 each with a lifetime warranty.
